Earth Village Education is closing its doors...

It's December, 2017. Looking out the window at bare trees and brown meadows, it's hard for me to believe that just a few months ago the days were long and everything was bright green! As I reflect on 2017, I have to say that I (Kevin) am very proud of all the work EVE accomplished. We conducted 18 adult classes, 7 field trips for local schools, 7 sessions of after-school nature club, 2 weeks of summer camp, and several lectures/presentations for partner organizations throughout the community. Over 500 people participated in an EVE program at some point in 2017. Together we kindled fires, interpreted bird songs, ate wild plants, felted wool, threw tomahawks, fermented mead, grafted apple trees, forged steel, identified wildflowers, tanned deer hides, navigated with compasses, built shelters, examined bee hives, and so much more! We're grateful for all the smiles, laughter, learning, good conversations, moments of connection, and instances of wonder that were woven throughout EVE's programs and lessons.

Unfortunately, we have some sad news. This fall, EVE encountered several major challenges, especially in the areas of staffing, finances, and access to land on which to run programs. EVE's board of directors considered many different paths forward, weighing the organization's challenges versus its available resources and opportunities. After much deliberation, the board decided to close EVE's doors for good at the end of this year. Consequently, EVE staff and directors have begun the process of “dissolving” the organization, and there won't be any more EVE programs in the future. We're sorry that Earth Village Education won't be around in 2018 and beyond; however, listed below are some nearby organizations that conduct classes and events about topics that are near and dear to us. Please check them out and support them!
